['The article in magazine Valvoja says: "It\'s delightful, that the publisher wants the Finnish youth to get to know works that are products of different nations and that have the mark of different nations and times. --- now the publisher gives a piece of modern life that is liven on the other side of the ocean. This doesn\'t feel strange, because the luxury, proudness and vanity, caused by wealth, that disfigure most of the characters in the book, doesn\'t seem to be unknown even for our social life. It has been necessary to describe a circle like that so that the main character, a pristine child of nature, Polly, would clearly come forth with her good nature and many vices. As a clear, fresh blast she comes to the stiff air of the salons and awakes astonishment everywhere. Not everyone turns their back to her - there are also those, whom she can affect and who give up their former lazy condition and become active, work loving and also happy with their existence. Alcott\'s books is also pedagogical, but the teachings are given in a entertaining way, not through the words of the characters but through their lives and actions. There is also a lot of action, and the way of telling is lively and describing. If we can doubt the realism of the characters, especially of the main character, we still have to admit that Alcott\'s books are more well suited for entertaining our young girls than many other books edited in England for young people."
