Notes ['The article in magazine Kotimaa 23.2.1917 says: "The book, that the young of today miss, as a remedy against the nervousness and displeasure that has taken over them. It\'s a book that thells about four young girls that try to put into practice \'The Pilgrim\'s Progress\', from the swamp of qualm to the green fields. It is a suitable story in these economically hard times, because it tells about the time of American Civil War, where the four heroines because of their inborn optimism and the upbringing of the religious home help each other through the hard times and difficulties, where they did stay with their mother when their father has followed the army of Union as a priest and their small income got even smaller. Fittingly and with great knowledge of human nature the (female) writer describes how the young protagonists are not protected against the temptations of fashion follies of the social life but their sane intuition and the advices by their sweet mother soon lead life to the right tracks and give back the peace of mind. There is no lack of the shine of romanticism, but the many events develop through innocent adventures toward the desired end result. The books is one that you can with pleasure recommend for the younger and even for the older reader." JWaug16']
