Place of birth is very uncertain. The Jackson Bibliography of Romantic Poetry writes that she was born at St. Catherine in Jamaica, while Wikipedia and The Women's Print History Project don't mention her place of birth. Benjamin Colbert (University of Wolverhampton) writes that the details of her childhood are shadowy (see: https://btw.wlv.ac.uk/authors/1007).
