Laura Harmaja was born as a daughter of a professor. She studied history and economics at the University of Helsinki and become M.A. 1905. After that she worked as a teacher of economics. She was also a scholar and took care of the professorship of “home economics” (kodin taloustiede) in the University of Helsinki 1947-1950. She was along founding the centre of home economics in Finland and the first Finnish women’s magazine, Kotiliesi (home stove). Nowadays she is mostly known because of her famous poet daughter, Saima Harmaja, who died from tuberculosis at an early age. Jwapr14
