According to Montferrand, mother came from noble family of Périgord, father was 'receveur général de la généralité' in Paris. p.265 Montferrand states she was born a catholic, but later turned 'indifférente' and finally turned to "un déisme chrétien très fervent, à un véritable piété". p.297 Husband said to belong to "l'Église réformée" p.298
