"'Kwamina' houde men voor geene letterverzetting; het is bij de Surinaamsche negers de gewoonte, in den gemeenzamen spreektrant bijnamen te geven, en wel naar de weekdag waarop iemand geboren is. Een man op dinsdag geboren heet Kwamina, waaruit men dus dit weinige te weten komt, dat een man, niet eene vrouw (dan zou het Aboni zijn) het boekje [Jetta] geschreven heeft, en dat die auteur op dinsdag geboren is." But Michiel van Kempen, Een geschiedenis van de Surinaamse literatuur, 2003 states that this author is a man.
