Annie Furuhjelm was a women's activist, critic, speaker, journalist, writer and Member of the Parliament. She was also a teacher and a nurse, who founded a school, orphanages, school kitchens and textile mills. Furujelm worked as the wice-chairman and later chairman of The Finnish Women's Association Unioni and as a chairman of The Swedish Women's association in Finland. Annie Furuhjelm was born in Satka, Alaska. Her father was a navy officer and governor of Alaska and her mother was Swedish-Scottish Anna von Schoultz who lived in Helsinki. The family lived in Satka until Annie was 10 - at that time mother moved with children to Germany where the children were able to go to school. Later Annie was a suffragette and a member of parliament in Finland. Annie's knowledge of languages was very wide: French, German, Finnish, Swedish, English, Russian. JWmar14
