Father Amos Bronson was a noted New England philosopher and part of a circle which included the poet Ralph Waldo Emerson. Her mother Abigail May was a noted advocate of women's rights and the abolition of slavery. She had three sisters who were the models for 'Little Women', Louisa Alcott portrayed herself as Jo.
