Philippine was a member of the Universitätsmamsellen, a group of five academically active women during the mid-18th and early 19th centuries. The group consisted of daughters of academics at Göttingen University. Other members were: Caroline Schelling, Therese Huber, Meta Forkel-Liebeskind and Dorothea Schleger.
Karoline Engelhard was her eldest daughter, who published pedagogical works.
